Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its result. We do not keep or log those search terms on our systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email sent to us may be retained long enough to answer and maintain the related correspondence. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our servers receive routine technical details when a page loads, including:
- Page-view times and the pages visited
- Device type and operating system
- Browser name and version
- The referring site, when available
- Visit duration for individual pages
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small device files that help measure traffic, popular pages, and common exit points. Analytics providers combine this activity into site-use reports. A browser can block cookies, although some functions may then behave differently.
What We Do With This Data
- Diagnosing errors and other technical problems
- Routing a search request to the selected partner
- Measuring which resources visitors use
- Operating the site and improving load performance
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Putnam County Criminal History does not maintain, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It identifies official routes to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, county courts, the West Virginia State Police Criminal Identification Bureau, and the West Virginia Sex Offender Registry. Visitor information is not assembled into a consumer report or a record about another person, and this site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Information submitted to a tool is governed by that provider's privacy policy. The provider, not this site, sets its retention and sharing rules, so review those terms before submitting a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the sheriff, court portals, state agencies, legal-aid resources, and search providers. Once a visitor leaves this site, the destination's privacy policy applies. Review it before sharing personal information.
Advertising companies may use their own systems to track activity across sites and select targeted ads.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Limited data may be available to:
- Analytics providers measuring traffic and performance
- Search partners processing a query submitted to their tool
- Advertising networks serving content on the pages
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security practices are used to protect collected data. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, so a breach or unauthorized access cannot be ruled out.
Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. A verified request concerning a minor's submitted data will be addressed promptly.
Your Data Rights
West Virginia's Freedom of Information Act, W. Va. Code §29B-1-1 et seq., governs access to qualifying public-agency records, while W. Va. Code §15-2-24 controls dissemination from the state criminal-history repository. Those laws do not convert this private site into a public records custodian. Subject to applicable law and verification, a visitor may:
- Ask what personal information we retain about them
- Request correction of inaccurate retained information
- Ask for deletion where no legal need requires retention
- Opt out of processing where an applicable right permits it
